Dressing for Success at Work

Formal Shirts Andre Shirts IconsIn this age of Internet where many employees are allowed to dress casually, there are still many other professions requiring a little finesse when it comes to work wear. In this week’s blog, we consider what is appropriate for wear in the workplace. For many companies, there are no set in stone rules about work wear, so here’s a useful check list:

  • When in doubt…go traditional and wear formal attire. Regardless of what many say, your effort will be appreciated.
  • First impressions count – try your best to project a serious image.  Placing in a concerted effort by wearing a suit (particularly in darker colors) combined with a formal shirt and cufflinks, can give you the edge over others within a business environment.
  • Dress how you want to be perceived –  professional or unprofessional, important or unimportant – If you don’t take yourself seriously in your area of expertise, unfortunately no one else will.
  • If you are a businessman, builder, solicitor, barman – etc, It is this simple: act like one and dress like one.
  • Keep jewellery simple and to a minimum.
  • Always buy clothing to fit your actual size – tight cloths only make you feel uncomfortable – we suggest avoid this at all costs.
  • Read up – Regularly read magazines for styles and trends to keep your wardrobe, accessories and hairstyle fresh and up to date.
  • Fail to prepare, prepare to fail – We strongly advice you to remain well organised to reduce potential fashion faux-pas. Here’s a quick list of things you should watch out for every day:
    • The night before work keep an on the weather forecast. This will help you when selecting your outfit for the following day at work. This will determine whether you need a heavy coat, rain coat, or umbrella.
    • Lay out what you will be wearing the night before and check that everything is clean and uncreased. If you need to iron something, you can do this the night before.
  • Get some rest and drink water –  Be sure to get a good night’s sleep each and every night, and drink water regularly. Tired eyes and skin are never fashionable.

These tips on top of an excellent work attitude can really keep you motivated and even make you one to watch in the workplace.

Have a good day,

from all the team at André.
