Why use Pinned or Tabbed Collars on Shirts?

Today we’re back with more style advice for men and are taking a closer look at our André Formal range which combines Pinned and Tabbed shirt collar detailing.

For those occasions when you need to look perfect from start to finish – it could be a vital business presentation, a wedding, a court event, a conference, or an elegant ceremony; pinned and tabbed collars often come into play in terms of practicality and styling. The last thing on your mind is whether your collar and tie is sitting right.

Pinned & Tabbed collars

According to Sven Schneider of the ‘Guide on Collared Tabs’ at the Gentlemen’s Gazette, he found many a movie icon began using dapper pinned or tabbed collars at the turn of the 20th century. Over the decades, film stars like Fred Astaire in “Scarface”,  Micheal Douglas in “Wall Street” and more recently TV star Jon Hamm of the series “Mad Men”, the direct and strong sense of formal style developed a renewed trend as a result.

Why wear a Pinned or Tabbed collar?

  • For delicate collars
  • Pinned in collar retains shape
  • Protrudes the tie upwards
  • For a neat and classic style

Style Tip:  Select an unlined tie and tie up a small and simple knot. By keeping the tie knot small the collar will not crease and the tie will appear more comfortable and eminent, rather than squashed around the neck base.
